After a lengthy winter re-build programme the team were hopeful of a
good result from both cars this weekend. Testing over the winter was
encouraging as both cars seemed to have improved pace.
In testing on the Friday before Saturdays
race team mate Bob Humphreys had an argument with a German touring car
Mercedes at copse causing damage to the suspension but undeterred by
this (after a few friendly words to the guilty Merc driver!) Robert
still managed to qualify a respectable 10th .... but after qualifying
his engine was found to be terminally ill and frustratingly had to sit
out the race.
Kelly Rogers however qualified 2nd
although it was widely thought that the pole position time was not
correct as it was not a regular front runner on pole, Kelly got a good
start and lead for the first couple of laps until he developed a slow
puncture (using old tyres) but managed to maintain 3rd position.
Therefore, the weekend was not too bad
considering Kelly easily has the measure of the opposition, the next
round at Donington should be a walk in the park for the 2 drivers |
