Round 5 Castle Combe (BRSCC)
Date 26th May 2003

This weekend could not have gone much better for the team. In qualifying Kelly was on pole position at the start of the session but just as he was to start his best qualifying lap a bolt had come out of the rocker cover throwing oil all over the engine bay and by the time a replacement bolt was found this left Kelly no time to put in his "PROPER" qualifying lap, but he was still 2nd quickest and on the front row of the grid yet again. Team mate Bob Humphries was fairing well on a circuit that was new to him and placed himself firmly in the middle of the pack. At the post qualifying de-brief the main topic was how come a bolt had worked loose when the cars are meticulously checked and double checked by the team lead by Peter Vickers. The verdict was there must have been a saboteur in the paddock and the team have there suspicions and we have a picture of him hastily leaving the area of our No.1 car.

At the start of the race Kelly got a usually good start and was leading the 20 car pack. Team mate Robert Humphries was meanwhile making a good account of himself in the middle of the pack, but then on lap 7 the red flags ceased racing due to an accident involving Dave Kimberley (Hope things are not too sore) this however meant that Kelly could claim his first win of the season but it put a stop to Bob's climb through the field. This means Kelly is still in second position in the championship. With us on our way to Spa in Belgium for the next round a favourite of Kelly's and his superior fitness over his rivals will surely favour him on this physically demanding circuit. Bob's fitness will have to be bolstered by a tank full of Belgium lager.
