A busy weekend for the team at the popular Cheshire circuit was not
without its drama's; it all started before qualifying when Kelly's cars
oil cooler sprung a leak on the way to the collection area so
necessitated a quick change by the team which was carried out in their
usual professional manner. In qualifying Kelly was finding it hard to
take up his usual front row position on the grid due to the engine not
performing as it should also brake difficulties but despite this 3rd
place on the grid was more than adequate. Peter Vickers and Steve
Gresham changed the engine on Kelly's car and resolved what we thought
was the problem with the brakes.
Bob finished the qualifying in the gravel trap, after avoiding hitting a
slower spinning car. This prevented Bob putting in his best time but he
still managed to qualify firmly in the thick of things in 14th place.
At the start of the race Kelly dropped 1 place to 4th but quickly got
back to 3rd by the end of lap 3, Kelly was in the lead but all was not
well as his brake fade problem gradually got worse; he managed to hold
position until lap 9 but was beaten to the line by less than 1/10th of a
second, this now leaves Kelly at the head of the points table for the
second half of the season and with the next few rounds at some of
Kelly's favourite circuits his championship challenge looks very good.
Bob's race was equally as eventful as he climbed his way through the
pack to finish in 8th position after starting from 14th.
The next round is Rockingham the impressive new American style racing
oval in Northampton, a venue very popular with spectators. Contact the
team if you require tickets for this event.
