Kelly Rogers Racing

The last Championship round of 2005, the season has flown by, but not without some exciting racing and some very big disappointments. Kelly Rogers racing had decided to test on the Friday before the meeting just to get some set up data and try out a few new settings.

Friday was a long day with three 20 minute sessions in the afternoon after travelling from Essex which takes a good 4 hours. Kelly was happy with the car in testing and was looking forward to qualifying on Saturday.

Saturday morning was bright but cold, signing on was at 8 am and scruitineering was an hour later, qualifying started at 9.20. Around the Island circuit Kelly was able to push 9 laps in qualifying to record a time of 1:39.700 but was piped for pole by 0.068 by Colin Peacock.

Racing started after lunch with the Mini Miglia race 2nd on the agenda, the first race was red flagged due to a start line incident so the race was put back 20 minutes. The cars were called to line up for the green flag lap, Kelly quietly confident as race pace is completely different to one fast lap. All the cars rolled up to there grid positions, the lights went red and then 5 seconds later went out. Kelly got a fantastic start leaving the rest of the grid trailing in his wake, with each lap Kelly pulled further away as the next 3 cars swapped places holding each other up. By lap 5 Kelly had a 1.2 second lead, but then the 3 cars had become 2 as Max Hunter had a boiling engine to content with. Lap 6,7 and 8 saw Sollis and Peacock reduce the gap to 0.23 of a second, Kelly had been holding a steady pace but now knew he had company. Lap 9 and Kelly had total control over the situation with the gap now 0.75 of a second the last lap would have to be steady with no mistakes. The last time into Deer Leap as the finish line loomed, crossing the line with headlights blazing, Kelly's first victory this year. After the race Kelly commented," Things were good from the start, pity I didn't get pole position but to win with so much confidence in the car was amazing."

With Kelly's win at the final round he secures his second position in the 2005 Mini Miglia Championship.
